"Truckster"

We didn't really need something else to do, but yesterday we brought home our 'latest project'.  We have been on the hunt for an RV, motorhome, camper, ..... and we finally settled on one and drover him home.

There is some work to be done, but we're thinking and hoping we have the skills to do all of it ourselves, and because of the work we'll have to do, we think we got it at a really good price.

Beautiful day .
Here we go down the road towards my new home.

Lots more pictures here, but for now....we gotta go out and get busy!  We have a date with the KC Chiefs the end of October, and we want to get as many things fixed before then....not to mention learning how to be RV owners!

Mother's Day 2011

I know I'm late getting this posted, but since I had to work on Mother's Day weekend, I decided to get Mom her Mother's Day present early.

We went to the local Greenhouse so that Mom could pick out some flowers she would like to look at for the next several months.
Mom wasn't exactly cooperative, and in the end I did most of the picking, but along with some trailing ivy and some Lavender Geraniums, we came home with some Purple and White Pansy, some Cockscomb (remember Mom having that in her garden when I was growing up), some Asparagus Fern (Mom still has great asparagus in her garden) and a new Plant called Hip Hop that was just a nice lacy looking flowering plant. You can see it in the middle of the center planter, and one Spike plant in the center of the bottom picture that dad calls a Yucka plant !!
Oh, about those planters - they were our gift to Mom & Dad this past Christmas. They are Cedar. Dad then made brackets so they would fit along the railing of their porch - Dad could water them easily and Mom could enjoy them from the kitchen table.

I ended up missing 2 plants while I was planting them up - I just made due with what I had, and was satisfied they were plenty full without the missing plants. Dad and I talked, and wondered where they might have gone....thinking that maybe Mom or the terriers helped themselves to them. Well...as I was putting my supplies back in the car - guess what I found in the trunk - - yep the missing plants!! Sorry Mom, and sorry dogs.... (slapping the forehead!) Dad and I had a good laugh over that.

Cemetery

On the way home, I stopped by the cemetery to see how the Peony bushes were doing.  I was a bit concerned because twe planted them 2 years ago, and for the last 2 years they've been mowed off!!!  I was really happy to see that they've been allowed to grow this year.

They both have nice buds, but of course Angelene's has more and they are robust.  I hope they are blooming nicely for Memorial Day, but at least this year - they got to grow!

Woodcutting at the Farm

We spent a good part of yesterday cutting wood at the farm.  While I didn't get pictures of all the process, I did get a couple to share..... you'll probably have to click the picture to see the captions.

Then there was a breakdown that had to be repaired - that took a fair share of the afternoon.
So there was a little siesta time.....
 and the final results.
The box is full and a fair amount to the right to hold up that side of the box!
Wood that should keep the 'farm hands' warm through the cooler nights.
Oh look....there's the farm hands now !!

S'marshmallows

Last night we got a chance to get 2 of the 3 kids home and had a Bar B Q and finished off the night by lighting up the fire pit and roasting S'marshmallows.  I know - it's spelled wrong, but the name has stuck ever since Brittney called them that many years ago.  Here are some picture for you to enjoy.

The kids were having so much fun and the bigger kids were just having fun watching the little ones.  Some day though we'll do it all again with ALL the family.  Miss you M-J-H-B.

I'm getting too old for this...

The old dishwasher gave up and it was time to replace it. Rather than spending the extra on getting someone to install it, it was decided spend a bit more to get the machine we wanted and do the installation ourselves.

Yes, there were several trips to the hardware store because now the manufacturers have decided to just leave out some of the necessary pieces so THEY can save some money. Several times Nina asked "Is it time to call the installer now?" but I wasn't going to give up.

Did you know that water lines only come in lengths that are simply too short to use. You have to buy more than one, and hook them together too! What kind of )*#*($&@^@* is that? After the third store, and I don't know how many trips back and forth, it's done. We could run the first load.

Of course it couldn't be that easy - yet. After that first load I found water under the sink.....so now I had to replace the splicer that connects the various water lines under the sink.  The pickup knew the way to the store - I just had to get in and start it.
The next loads were dry both under the sink and under the diswasher.

I'm done .... where are the pain relievers, because my body isn't used to this.

Spring Snow

Do you see the large snowflakes in this picture taken this morning? Lucky it's just too warm and late in the year for anything to stick or accumulate. I've had enough of the white stuff this year. The picture really doesn't do the snowfall justice. The flakes were so big and fat and juicy: you could actually hear them dropping on the carport. Some were nearly the size of quarters!

Update:
A full week later - on the 14th of March, we were letting the dogs out in the back yard and found this!!  We hadn't even realized it had snowed!

New Wheels

OK...we broke down and purchased a 'new' vehicle last Friday. This was locally owned by someone who is notorious for taking excellent care of their vehicles and we took the plunge. While not a flashy SUV and definitely not our Dream Vehicle, we like the ride and features. We'll keep the van for every-day driving and trips that require more cargo room.

Let it Snow

We got our first measurable amount of snow through the night last night. It's light and fluffy so it was easy to shovel away. Lucky for us - the neighbor came over and cleared a good part of the driveway and the walkway for us before we got out to finish it up..... Thanks Gene!!

Nativity visitor

Someone has joined the nativity! This arrived in the mail today all the way from Japan......and since I've not been in any hurry to take the nativity set down, she was able to go visit the baby Jesus right away. Love it.
Miss you too Mikayla!

What's wrong with this picture?

OK, this is a scene I observed this morning. - Do you see it?  Do you know what to do about it ?
Can U tell now?  It seems that DH was dusting off the keyboard of his laptop when - OMG - the orientation of the screen was sideways!!  He found out what he'd done and how to fix it.  Do you know how?
